James A. Little Theater

Main entrance of the James A. Little Theater

The beautiful and historic James A. Little Theater, located on NMSD’s Santa Fe campus, hosts NMSD shows and has been rented out to the greater community extensively as a perfect venue for lectures and performances.

  • The fixed seating capacity of the theater is 388, with space to add padded seating chairs for a total capacity of 432 seats. Audience capacity, including standing room and persons in wheelchairs is 450.

  • The theater is also equipped with a Gentner Assistive Listening System that consists of an FM transmitter and individual battery-powered receivers that can be distributed upon request.

Note that the James A. Little Theater is closed as it is undergoing renovations. The school is not currently considering rental requests for future dates. We will inform the community when the theater is once again open for rentals.

A Message from NMSD's Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Herbold:

Dear Community Members,

Thank you for your interest in NMSD’s cherished James A. Little Theater. It has long served as an important performing arts and events venue in the city of Santa Fe.

Right now, the infrastructure of the Theater, as well as the front end (restrooms and other areas), need significant renovations, and we regret that it is not open to rental by the public.

The voters/legislators of the state have generously given us the funds needed to renovate and we will complete the design process in late spring of 2024 with construction beginning after that.

Taking into consideration construction and supply delays, we look forward to fully opening our Theater and welcoming the public back to our cherished campus sometime during 2026.

Thank you for your understanding and support,

Dr. Jennifer Herbold
