Instruction

While NMSD seeks to nurture the whole child, rigorous academics are always at the forefront. NMSD's academic program strictly conforms to the New Mexico State and Common Core Standards. We use data-driven instruction to determine a student's strengths and needs, with Assessments to evaluate their individual progress.

A wide range of academic coursework is designed to maximize each student's potential and excite love for learning. Students are central in their language and communication environment - offering not only planned course work but also crucial incidental learning.

At NMSD, we strive for excellence and focus on instilling curiosity in our students. They are encouraged to explore the world around them and to be life-long learners.

I love Science and learned about the planets. The sun is HOT! I like playing in the motor room too because I can jump and run around really fast. Mika, Jac and Lucas are my friends. Maddie too! When I arrive in the morning they all give me a big hug. I love my school.

This is my second year at NMSD and I fit in because I'm Deaf. I love communicating with my teachers and friends in ASL and I play on the volleyball, cheerleading and track teams. After school I have fun crafting, cooking and chatting with friends in my cottage.

Since joining NMSD my son Emmett found people who accept him as he is and can communicate with him directly. NMSD has challenged him and I appreciate that because in public school they were letting him float by and fail. Emmett has made so many friends and is happier. The support system NMSD provides has saved him and I’m grateful.
