Early Intervention Services

The early discovery that your child is Deaf or Hard of Hearing is a remarkable gift, as forging the cerebral pathways and avenues to communication and education can then begin at the most critical point in development.

Experts agree that the first days, months, and years of a child’s life are the essential foundation for all future learning. In fact, research shows that families who receive early intervention when their child is a baby are less stressed and their children are able to maintain typical cognitive and language development.

Early Intervention was established to provide New Mexican Deaf or Hard of Hearing children with these important building blocks, so that they may flourish into adulthood.

We are proud to provide specialized IDEA Part C entitled early intervention services for families with babies and young children across the state, helping families capitalize on this fleeting yet precious window of opportunity for their child.

NMSD's Early Intervention has been incredible. We feel so confident and supported in being advocates for our son.

Dah y eh – Thank you! NMSD has helped us in so many ways. They taught us a unique way of communicating with our son. We have been introduced to a new family –our NMSD family. Sebastian has grown so much in his communication through ASL. Sara and Carla’s services have helped us communicate with Sebastian at home and also in the community.
