Educational Consultants at the New Mexico School for the Deaf’s Center for Educational Consultation and Training (CECT) work collaboratively with families, schools and agencies to provide individualized consultation designed to meet the unique learning, communication, and language needs of deaf or hard of hearing children and youth being educated in their local school districts and communities. These services are provided free of charge to public school programs, and charter school programs for students who are either on an IEP or a 504 plan.
CECT provides a broad range of information and support to public schools, families, and students with a special focus on language, communication, social-emotional engagement and literacy development including:
- Quality educational programming
- IEP attendance
- Development of the required Communication Considerations IEP Addendum
- Student evaluations
- School-based student observations
- Program or student-specific workshops
- Demonstration lessons
- Post-secondary transition support
- Part C to Part B transition support
