General 5-Year Program:
There is also a 5-year high school program for those who will benefit from additional schooling with a specific focus on literacy skills. Based on data collected from previous graduates, it was found that many students need an additional year of schooling to better prepare for life after graduation. This includes improving reading, writing, and communication skills as well as developing additional job readiness, independent living and self-advocacy skills. At the student’s IEP meeting prior to entering High School, the team including the students and their families determine if the student would benefit from a carefully planned five year program.
ASL-English Immersion Program
There is also an ASL-English Immersion Program (AEIP) for students who display strong cognitive and language skills but need to receive intensive instruction in their reading, writing, and ASL skills. Students who meet the qualifications participate in this program prior to the first year of high school. Exceptions are considered on a case-by-case basis. Results of this program have evidenced higher academic achievement in students during the remainder of their high school years.
